Musician turned politician Sir Mathias Walukagga will have his fate of appearing on the ballot paper as the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for the Busiro East Member of Parliament seat will be decided on December 22.
A ruling was made by Justice Simon Peter Kinobe after hearing submissions from lawyers representing both the petitioner and the respondents.
According to his lead counsel, Alex Luganda, the court directed the Electoral Commission and the second respondent, Mr. Lubowa, to file their replies and defenses within a single day.
“We came for the hearing of the petition challenging the decision of the Electoral Commission to disqualify Walukaga from the Busiro East MP race. It is encouraging that both the Electoral Commission and Mr. Lubowa appeared in court.”

“On Thursday, we shall file our rejoinder and written submissions, raising the issues and the law upon which we want the court to base its decision.”
The ruling will ultimately determine whether Sir Mathias Walukaga’s name appears on the ballot as the NUP candidate for Busiro East in the upcoming parliamentary contest.
